Retraction and Correction Policy

Purpose and Commitment

GENIUS: Indonesian Journal of Early Childhood Education is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that despite rigorous editorial screening and peer-review processes, situations may arise where published articles require correction, retraction, removal, or replacement.

Retractions and corrections are implemented carefully and only when necessary, following internationally recognized standards of publication ethics and best practices, including guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics.

The journal is dedicated to preserving the accuracy and completeness of its academic archives for researchers, readers, librarians, and indexing services.

Article Retraction

An article may be retracted when there is clear evidence that its findings, conclusions, or publication process are fundamentally flawed or unethical.

Retraction may occur under the following circumstances:

  1. Major Scientific Errors
    The article contains serious methodological errors, miscalculations, invalid analyses, or unreliable findings resulting from honest mistakes or research misconduct.
  2. Research Misconduct
    Evidence of data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, or other forms of scientific misconduct.
  3. Plagiarism
    Significant plagiarism, including unattributed use of another person’s ideas, words, data, or intellectual work.
  4. Redundant or Duplicate Publication
    The work has been previously published elsewhere without appropriate disclosure, permission, or justification.
  5. Unethical Research Practices
    Violations involving research ethics, informed consent, confidentiality, or ethical approval procedures.
  6. Authorship Misconduct
    Cases involving ghost authorship, guest authorship, or disputes concerning legitimate authorship contributions.

Retraction Procedure

To ensure fairness, transparency, and consistency, the journal follows these procedures:

  1. Concerns regarding a published article may be raised by editors, reviewers, readers, institutions, or other parties.
  2. The Editor-in-Chief conducts a preliminary investigation in accordance with Committee on Publication Ethics flowcharts and ethical guidelines.
  3. Authors will be contacted and given an opportunity to provide clarification or supporting evidence.
  4. The editorial board may consult reviewers, ethics advisors, or affiliated institutions when necessary.
  5. The final decision regarding retraction is made by the editor-in-chief.
  6. A formal retraction notice will be published and linked to the original article.
  7. The original article will remain accessible online for scholarly transparency but will be clearly marked as “Retracted.”

Retraction aims to correct the scholarly record rather than punish authors.

Article Correction

The journal may publish corrections when a published article contains errors that do not invalidate the overall findings or integrity of the work.

Corrections may be issued when:

  • A minor portion of the article contains inaccurate or misleading information
  • Errors are identified in data presentation, references, tables, or figures
  • Author names, affiliations, or contributor information require amendment
  • Technical or production errors occur during publication

Types of Corrections

1. Erratum (Publisher Correction)

Issued to correct errors introduced during the editorial or production process by the journal staff or publisher.

2. Corrigendum (Author Correction)

Issued when authors identify significant errors in their published work that may affect interpretation but do not invalidate the study.

3. Addendum

Issued to provide additional clarification, updated information, or supplementary explanation related to the original publication.

Correction Procedure

  1. Requests for correction may be submitted by authors, readers, editors, or institutions.
  2. The editorial team evaluates the significance and impact of the reported error.
  3. Authors may be asked to provide clarification or supporting documentation.
  4. The Editor-in-Chief determines whether a correction is necessary and identifies the appropriate correction type.
  5. Approved corrections will be published and electronically linked to the original article.

Article Removal

In extremely rare circumstances, an article may be removed from the journal website when:

  • The content violates legal rights or court orders
  • The article contains defamatory or unlawful material
  • The publication poses a serious public health or safety risk
  • Legal obligations require removal

In such cases:

  • The article metadata (title, authors, DOI, and publication details) will remain accessible for record purposes.
  • The article content will be replaced with a notice explaining the reason for removal.

Article Replacement

If a published article is found to contain seriously flawed information that could pose substantial risks if relied upon, authors may request replacement with a corrected version.

Under these circumstances:

  1. The original article will be retracted following the journal’s retraction procedures.
  2. A corrected and republished version may be issued.
  3. Clear links between the original and corrected versions will be maintained to preserve publication transparency.

Editorial Responsibility and Ethical Standards

All decisions related to retractions, corrections, removals, or replacements are made carefully, objectively, and transparently by the editorial team.

The journal follows ethical publishing standards and recommendations established by the Committee on Publication Ethics, DOAJ, and Scopus to maintain the integrity of scholarly communication.
